The University of Washington Wednesday announced that it will play a home-and-home basketball series with the University of Connecticut starting in the 2012 season, when the West Coast Huskies travel to either Storrs, CT. (UConn campus) or the Hartford Center, to meet the East Coast Huskies. That game will be played Dec. 29, 2012.

A 6-foot-9 forward with three years of college ball has transferred to Washington to help stanch the losses of Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten, who are headed to the NBA.

Perris Blackwell, a three-year letter winner for the University of San Francisco, will sit out the 2012-13 season, per NCAA transfer rules, before resuming eligibility for his senior season at Washington, the school said Tuesday.

Lorenzo Romar's Washington Huskies took the first step toward replacing NBA-bound Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten Wednesday when 6-foot-6 guard Mark McLaughlin, who starred last season at Tacoma Community College, signed scholarship papers with the Huskies. McLaughlin will enroll at UW during the summer.

Adults have again colluded to short college athletes.

College coaches pushed a change the NCAA passed quietly last spring. April 10 is the new date underclassmen have to withdraw their name from draft consideration, in order to retain college eligibility.

Any surprise coaches and the NCAA wrangled April 10 into becoming D(ecision) Day for players should not exist. April 11 is the opening of the spring recruit-signing period. Hence, the self-serving alteration.

For the second time in three days, the Washington Huskies lost a player to the NBA.

Despite having no outside game for a guard and a poor mark at the free throw line, Tony Wroten, to no one's surprise, made himself eligible for the draft despite having played only one year at UW. Sophomore Terrence Ross said Sunday he would also make himself eligible for the draft.

If Kentucky wins the NCAA men's basketball title Monday night, as most expect, John Calipari, known as Coach Vacate, his ways will not be validated. Too late for that.

Win or lose against Kansas, he already has been validated. That day in August 2009 in Lexington when he signed a $31.65 million contract for eight years was all the validation required.

This is no April Fool's joke: Terrence Ross, the leading scorer (16.4 ppg) for the University of Washington basketball team this past season, will depart the Huskies and make himself available for the 2012 NBA draft. The 6-foot-5 Ross, a sophomore and a native of Portland, is expected to be selected in the middle of the first round.

Washington's exasperating basketball season, which ended with a 68-67 overtime loss to Minnesota Tuesday at Madison Square Garden in New York, got a little more so Thursday night when Pac-12 rival Stanford crushed the Gophers 75-51 to win the NIT championship.
